Skank - “OneSong” (by Lobo)

Super compositing. My first guess is that they filmed each shot as a static shot, then zoomed in so they could pan around and make it look like a hand-held.

How did they really do it? I have no idea; you tell me…

This little short film has been nominated for an Academy Award, and it’s no surprise. Oktapodi resembles a cross between Pixar and Les Triplettes de Belleville; cute, funny, and brilliant. Check it out!

The Watchmen Movie Trailer - No Techno!

I know it’s the Christmas season, and I know this isn’t a very “Christmas-y” post, but I was walking past my local theater the other day and I finally saw a poster for the upcoming movie, The Watchmen and I just had to write about it cuz it looks wicked.

The trailer for this movie has been floating around for a long time now; I’ve watched it a dozen times, and I have to say, I am beyond impressed.  FINALLY, an action trailer than isn’t cut to a techno song. Instead, they used a b-side track by the Smashing Pumpkins, which gives the trailer an awesomely dark and sinister feel. Totally cool, and completely refreshing. Please, no more techno…

Based on the classic Watchmen comic book series, this isn’t just another superhero Film.  The FX look absolutely amazing, the story looks nice and dark; it’s definitely setting the bar high for the final movie. But if it turns out to be crap, they should just release the trailer on DVD, because I’ll buy it! Check it out:

Bruce Lee plays ping pong for Nokia commercial

Nokia recently put out 2 ads for their Nokia N96 featuring the legendary Bruce Lee. The first of the two commercials shows Bruce Lee thumping two opponents in a game of ping pong. They took an old recording and with some compositing trickery, made it look like he’s actually playing ping pong.  When I first saw it, I thought it was actual lost footage; it’s so well done. Of course, it’s not real, but they did an amazing job of making it look as seamless as it gets.

Nokia hit the nail on the head with these commercials and to no surprise, they have become the latest addition to the viral hall of fame. I mean, how could you go wrong? Have a commercial with the legendary Bruce Lee using his insane nunchucks skills to sell phones! Whoever came up with this idea has definitely got a promotion coming.

Check out the Ping Pong version first, then scroll down and click through to watch the other commercial. Prepare to be amazed.
